Our Values
Our core values reflect our commitment to patients that visit our Halifax office.
Exceptional Service
We want our patients to feel confident in their orthodontic care. We're here to provide guidance, support, and encouragement every step of the way.
We also offer customized treatment planning, in-house payment plans, and easy post-treatment maintenance to make everything as stress-free as possible.
Proactive & Conservative Treatment
We take a less-is-more approach to orthodontics. We always want to use the least intrusive, but most effective treatment possible for each patient, especially when it comes to early intervention for children.
Orthodontics for Everyone
At Clayton Orthodontics, we believe we can help anyone achieve a smile they can be confident in. We offer treatment tailored to the needs of children, teens, and adults, and accessible payment plans that can fit almost any budget.
Early Assessments for Children
One of the best ways to make sure your child has healthy oral development is to have them evaluated by our orthodontist early. This gives Dr. Roth time to identify and treat any emerging orthodontic issues.
Orthodontics for Oral Health
There is no question that orthodontic treatment can create beautiful smiles, but it is about so much more than aesthetics. Ultimately, orthodontics is about helping patients improve their oral health to benefit their day-to-day lives.
Better Oral Function
By improving the alignment of teeth and jaws, not only are you making them look nicer, but you are actually improving how they function. Straight teeth in a properly aligned jaw will make it easier to bite, chew, and speak. Problems with these basic functions can be debilitating for many patients, and we love helping them get through it!
Better Oral Hygiene
It is much easier to keep straight teeth clean than it is crooked or overcrowded teeth. When your teeth are straight, it is easier to get floss between them and access all areas with a toothbrush. Orthodontic treatment can make a huge difference when it comes to avoiding oral health problems like tooth decay and gum disease.
Long-Term Damage Prevention
Misaligned teeth can sustain a lot of wear and tear over time as they move against each other in uneven patterns while you talk or chew, or as a result of compensatory movements. Straightening your teeth can help reduce the need for restorative dental treatments in the future.
Knowledge is Power for Patients
It is our philosophy that well-informed orthodontic patients are more likely to be successful with their treatment. Because of this, our team prioritizes communication.
We are always available to answer questions, and we make sure our patients understand each element of their treatment plans.
Here are our answers to some questions we are frequently asked by new patients about orthodontics.
-
What is an orthodontist?
An orthodontist is a dental specialist who is trained in the diagnosis, prevention, management, and correction of misaligned teeth, jaws, and bite patterns.
Dentists must complete an additional three years of university and earn the specialty designation.
-
What are the benefits of orthodontics?
Orthodontic treatments are designed to align the teeth and jaws, which not only provides aesthetic benefits but also has positive health benefits.
First of all, misaligned teeth are more difficult to clean than straight teeth. When your teeth are misaligned, this creates spaces that you simply cannot access with floss or a toothbrush, meaning plaque and debris can build up and lead to tooth decay or gum disease. Additionally, misalignments in the teeth and jaws can cause difficulties with chewing, leading to digestive issues. These misalignments can result in chronic neck and facial pain as well.
By improving the alignment of the teeth and jaws, orthodontic treatment can help resolve all of these issues.
-
How can I tell if I need orthodontic treatment?
The best way to know for sure if you could benefit from orthodontic treatment is to be evaluated by any orthodontist. You can request an appointment with us at any time (no referral needed!).
That being said, some signs that you should book a consultation include:
- Visibly misaligned teeth or bite
- Pain or discomfort when chewing
- Difficulty chewing or speaking
- Chronic facial or jaw pain
- Difficulty brushing and flossing

What are my orthodontic treatment options at Clayton Orthodontics?
The two primary modes of orthodontic treatment we offer are traditional braces and clear aligners. Both treatment modalities can be customized for each patient's specific needs.
We also offer surgical orthodontics to treat severe jaw irregularities. This orthodontic treatment improves patients' facial appearance and ability to chew, speak, and breathe.
Early intervention, such as jaw growth guidance with appliances like palatal expanders, may also be used for children.
-
At what age should someone seek orthodontic treatment?
We typically recommend that children visit the orthodontist for the first time by the age of seven.
These early evaluations give us an opportunity to identify and treat emerging, isolated orthodontic issues promptly. In some cases, we can work with a child's developing upper jaw to guide healthy growth. This type of early intervention can help prepare them for orthodontic treatment in the teen or adult years.
As far as adults go, there is no upper age limit for orthodontic treatment. As long as their teeth and gums are healthy, adults in their 30s, 40s, and beyond can benefit from orthodontics too!
-
How much does orthodontic treatment with braces or clear aligners cost?
Orthodontic treatment costs vary depending on several factors, including the severity and complexity of your orthodontic issue, the amount of time it takes to correct it, and the type of treatment you choose.
Our team will work with you to develop a treatment plan that considers your budget. We're also happy to help you submit insurance claims and develop a payment plan to alleviate some of the stress of paying for treatment.
