The Role of Technology at Clayton Orthodontics

At our clinic in Halifax, technology helps us understand the complexities of your orthodontic issue in detail.

What we can see with our naked eye is only part of the story. Using technology such as X-rays shows us the intricacies of what is going on below the gumline and within your jaw bone where we can't see.

With this information, we are able to create highly customized treatment plans designed to meet your needs and goals in the safest way possible.

We are also able to use this technology throughout your treatment to monitor any changes so we know if we need to make any adjustments along the way.

You'll encounter technology all along your orthodontic treatment journey, and we will use it to communicate with you about the progress made correcting your orthodontic condition.

Digital X-rays

Digital X-ray technology uses digital sensors and a computer to produce detailed, high-quality internal images of your teeth and gums.

Digital X-rays allow your orthodontist to see the position of your teeth under the gums, as well as the surrounding bones, and to make a diagnosis of your orthodontic condition. They also help us identify things that may impact your orthodontic treatment, like previous dental restorations or the development of tooth decay. All of this information is essential to diagnosis and treatment planning.

Panoramic X-rays

A panoramic X-ray is a single two-dimensional image of the entire mouth, including your teeth, jaw, and the surrounding tissues and structures.

These X-rays are crucial for examining teeth and their roots, their form and structure, their eruption sequence, and their relationship to one another in the jaws. This provides key insights for treatment planning and assessment, especially when considering orthodontic treatment that affects your whole mouth.

iTero Intraoral Scanner

The iTero intraoral scanner is a handheld imaging device that creates highly detailed, three-dimensional digital impressions of the hard and soft tissues of the mouth, without goopy impression putty. The process is minimally intrusive; you simply open wide, as our team moves the device around your mouth.

As this is done, the wand is capturing images that will then become a replica of your mouth. The whole process only takes a few minutes to complete.
